When Two Worlds Met on Koh Phangan — and Became Zawadi Hat Fashion

Two worlds apart.

A quiet sunset kind of love… and a music-and-lights kind of life.

Somehow, Koh Phangan held both worlds and that’s where Zawadi Hat Fashion began.

Sometimes your life doesn’t change loudly. It changes when two different worlds stop resisting each other.

How Koh Phangan Brought Two Worlds Together

At the time, Max and I felt like we lived in different rhythms. I loved slow moments, a glass of wine by the beach, watching the sky turn gold. Max loved the energy of nights out, music and movement. He lived behind the lens.

I was camera shy, so shy, it took him almost eight months to capture a clear photo of me.

It wasn’t only the lifestyle. We were both deeply invested in the lives we thought we were meant to live. We had plans, timelines and a sense that compromise would mean losing ourselves.

But what can love do?

Our First Date and the Moment I Almost Ran Away

On our first date, Max took me to a party where he was photographing artists. I remember standing backstage, trying not to disappear because I felt out of place.

He belonged there. I didn’t, or so I thought.

I wasn’t trying to “fit in.” I was trying to stay open long enough to understand.

What We Actually Shared

By our third date, we started to see what we had in common beneath the surface: values, creativity and a shared pull toward building something meaningful.

Max loved to stand out in fashion and I loved to create pieces that stand out. I’ve always carried a deep love for African textiles — especially Kitenge because it holds heritage, boldness and beauty in one.

And slowly, two worlds stopped clashing… and started blending.

Bold Love

Then came the kind of love we’d both been searching for: bold love. Love that isn’t shy to say “I love you.” Love that doesn’t hold back to look composed. Love that dives fully in even if it breaks a few rules.

We found that in each other.

Bold love doesn’t shrink. It expands and it creates.

From African Roots to Global Streets

That spirit became the heartbeat of Zawadi Hat Fashion — a brand rooted in love, confidence and self-expression, where heritage meets the world with intention.

As an interracial couple, we live this truth in our own story: love is diverse, love is bold and love is beautiful.

A quiet sunset met a room full of music. A shy face met a camera lens. African prints met a global street.

From African roots to global streets. That’s ZHF.
